Rehabilitation And Expansion Work On The Grenada Boys Secondary School 75% Complete

Monday 23rd April, 2007- St. George’s: Staff and Students of the Grenada Boys Secondary School are highly anticipating the completion of existing rehabilitation and expansion work on the school. The school which was severely damaged as a result of Hurricane Ivan on September 7th 2004 also suffered addition destruction as a result of two major fires in 2005. In the interim the students have been housed on the grounds of the school in temporary classrooms provided by the Government of Grenada at a cost of EC$ 893,741.77.

The Rehabilitation and expansion project which is being funded by the World Bank is estimated to cost Ten Million, Sixty Five Thousand, One hundred and eighteen dollars and ninety-two cents EC$10,065,118.92. The project is 75% complete with a scheduled completion date of July 2007.

The Works consist of the Rehabilitation of the existing Classroom/Laboratories Block (A) and extension thereto, and the construction of two (2) additional Blocks as follows:

Block C           Library and Computer Room
Block D          Classrooms and Toilets

The new structure will comprise reinforced concrete foundations and ground slab, reinforced concrete suspended floors, concrete masonry external walls and internal partitions, reinforced concrete staircases with metal handrails. The roof will comprise reinforced concrete slabs, and 24 guage ‘PBR’ panels on metal purlins and rafters. Windows will include aluminium framed casement and sliding windows with clear float glass internally. Doors will include timber panel doors in aluminum frames and shop fronts comprising aluminum framing and plain float glazing. Floor finishes will include ceramic tiles in the toilet areas, brushed grano to the stairs and corridors and terrazzo in the classrooms and laboratories; carpeting to the conference room. Ceilings shall be gypsum, mudded and sanded for decoration. All exposed masonry and gypsum works will be decorated with emulsion paint, and exposed steel or wood surfaces will be decorated with oil paint.

Staff and students can rest assured that upon completion they will have a state of the art facility.
