The rehabilitation and expansion work was executed by the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) through financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), to the tune of Four Hundred and Forty Nine Thousand $449,000.00 Eastern Caribbean Dollars.
The new facility now comprise three classrooms capable of housing 54 students, storage rooms, an indoor and outdoor playing area, a sick bay, kitchen and lunch room facilities, office space and toilet facilities customized for the children.
Present at handing over ceremony was Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs Hon. Elvin Nimrod, Minister of Communication, Works and Transport Hon. Clarice Modeste-Curwen, CDB’s Operations Officer Mr. Samuel Maxwell, parents, teachers, students and staff of the school.
On addressing the ceremony, Minister Modeste-Curwen took the opportunity to congratulate the team from BNTF together with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for making the project a reality. The Minister was also high in praise of the contractor and encouraged contractors in general to adhere to the building codes of Grenada.
CDB Official Mr. Maxwell encouraged the teachers to educate their students on the proper use and maintenance of the facility, so as to ensure its prolonged existence.
Work is presently ongoing on the Mt. Pleasant Medical Station and the Hillsborough Child Development center.
