The Constantine Methodist School like many of the Schools on the island suffered major damage as a result of Hurricane Ivan.
The Rehabilitation of the school represents yet another milestone in the post hurricane Ivan recovery process within the education sector, but more importantly in the programme of education and human resource development.
The provision of a new toilet block, new classroom block and rehabilitation of the existing classrooms has cost the Government approximately, Two Million One hundred and seven Thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars on the infrastructure works alone. The school will also be the beneficiary of staff and students furniture costing approximately Fifty Thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars.
Prime Minister Mitchell commended the Principal, Staff, and students for their dedication and commitment towards the rebuilding process. Dr. Mitchell reaffirmed Government’s commitment to work closely with stakeholders and was high in praise of our local contractors who he said have demonstrated that they are world class tradesmen.
Minister for Education and Labour Hon. Claris Charles recognized the overwhelming support received for the Caribbean Development Bank through the Project Officer Mr. Glen Mc Carvel during the implementation of the project. The Hon. Minister went encourage all to guarantee that the value of education delivered and the outputs achieved are at a very high standard.
Parliamentary representative for North East St. George’s Hon. Nazim Burke was high in praise of the Governments commitment and dedication towards the rehabilitation of the nation’s schools.
The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the donor and lending agencies has schedules a series of similar activities for the upcoming weeks.
