PUBLIC FORUM ON EDUCATION

St. George’s, Grenada, 19th November, 2008 _ The first in a series of public forums being hosted by the Ministry of Education is taking place today at the St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) from 5p.m. to 8p.m.

The forum is aimed at getting the publics input on the revision of the school curriculum.  Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Senator Franka Bernadine says this government is serious about education and therefore wants to ensure that every child is properly educated.

Among topics down for discussion are:

·                     “the revised curriculum”,
·                     violence in schools,
·                     training and scholarships among others.

Short presentations will be made by members of the public at the forum and there will also be group discussions.

The forum comes at a time when statistics from the World Bank reveal that Grenada has the highest skills discrepancy in the Western Hemisphere. Senator Bernadine says “we cannot continue to lag behind our counterparts especially with the coming of the CSME.” She says “it’s time to take the bull by the horns and ensure that we catch up with the rest.” “We are well behind.”

The public is being encouraged to be a part of the process and help shape the future of education in Grenada.
