ILO Training Workshop For Senior Labour Officials

Friday 14th September 2007- St. George’s : Senior labour officials from the Caribbean will attend an International Labour Organization training workshop on Advanced Labour Administration and Industrial Relations on 18-20 September 2007 at the Grenada Grande Beach Resort and Conference Centre, Grand Anse, Grenada. The training workshop will be hosted by the ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Labour, Grenada.

The Honourable Claris Charles, Minister for Education, Labour and Legal Affairs, will deliver the keynote address at the Opening Ceremony on 18 September 2007 at 8:30a.m.

Thirty labour officials of CARICOM Member States and overseas territories as well as representatives of trade unions and employers’ organizations who actively serve on tripartite labour advisory bodies, will participate in this advanced three-day training workshop.  

The workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of Labour Ministries and tripartite labour advisory bodies to carry out their labour administration and industrial relations functions. Topics will include effective measures and new initiatives to improve industrial relations, providing more effective labour administration services, and exploring the potential of social dialogue. Participants will also get an opportunity to share their own country experiences.

The facilitator for the workshop is Labour-Management Consultant, Samuel J. Goolsarran, who served as the former ILO Senior Specialist on Industrial Relations and Labour Administration at the ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean.

This workshop is the third in a series of four ILO regional training workshops designed mainly for labour officials. Two training workshops have already been held - one on Essential Labour Administration in Saint Kitts and Nevis and the other on Labour Inspection in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The final in the series will be held early in 2008. The subject will be Conciliation and Mediation.
