Mr. Sylvester announced that the development programme will start with the TA Marryshow Community College and will then spread to all Tertiary institutions around the region. He further stated that, "the CKLN had made great progress and was very close to achieving all of its funding goals."
"We are about to receive a 10 million Euro grant from the European Union which will make Caribnet a reality. We have already received grant money from the Caribbean Development Bank, the Inter American Development Bank, and the EU. This funding will create Caribnet, a link of all 17 member countries of the CKLN through the use of high capacity fibre optics.
Sylvester ended by commending Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell for his leadership of the CKLN. "Prime Minister Mitchell stood tall in his advocacy for the project when others questioned its importance. I am pleased to say that much of the success the project is now enjoying is due in many respects to the commitment of Prime Minister Mitchell," Sylvester remarked.
The CKLN Board will meet tomorrow at the CKLN Headquarters in Grand Anse.
